Books Worth Buying: Interview with the Vampire: Claudia’s Story

18 Dec

Today’s segment is brought to you by the wonderfully talented Hunter S. Jones, author of the brand new and highly acclaimed “Fables of the Reconstruction” and “Tales From a New Amsterdam”. Enough from me, here’s Hunter to tell you about her choice for today’s “Books Worth Buying” segment.

Thank you for asking about my latest book crush, Tara. There are so many gifted authors. You always ask me the questions that take days to get an answer. What is the one book that I have recently read that is worth buying and keeping? One book? Only one book? One recent book…

That is an almost impossible question to answer. However, the answer is Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire: Claudia’s Story.

This is the story of Anne Rice’s child vampire, Claudia, as told through the illustrations of Ashley Marie Witter. I really didn’t know what to expect when I ordered this book. What I received was another masterpiece, another testimony to Mrs. Rice’s genius.

The first thing you notice is that it’s a beautiful little book – very visually appealing in red with gold lettering in the classic Anne Rice font. It’s also small; almost like a little poetry book. They had me at the book cover which features the art of Ashley Marie Witter.

The format for the story is illustrated graphic, as was once used in Victorian novels. Most readers would look at it and think of comic book formatting. Imagine reading a gothic comic book – it’s like that. The colors used in telling the story are in antique sepia tones, except for red. After all, Claudia, Lestat and Louis are vampires. I love this little book.

Claudia’s story is told by framing each sequence and episode. You are given more insight into her character and story. It’s a ‘must have’ for any Anne Rice collector. Anne Rice reminds me, yet again, that the written word is an art form, open to interpretation and it need not be restricted by any boundaries.

Many thanks to Hunter for sharing her pick! So, go on, get it for yourself. And while you’re there, be sure to check out the amazing genre-busting tales penned by Hunter herself!
