Rehab Is For Witches – Available now!

2 Nov

It’s here! It’s here! I’ve been waiting for so long for this to be released, you guys don’t even know….

Raise your glass! Read this book!

Raise your glass! Read this book!

But here it is, in all its shiny, new release-y glory!

Go on, lookit that gorgeous cover!

Go on, lookit that gorgeous cover!

I am so proud to be a part of this anthology. I was privileged to be able to work again with the incomparable Miranda Stork and Elle J. Rossi, and pleased to be working with Cynthia Valero, J.A. Howell, and Tyffani Clark Kemp for the first (and not the last *wink wink*) time.

Seriously. This was me all the time working and plotting with these ladies. They’re AWESOME.

The end result was something truly amazing. A great book with great characters, each of them with a story to tell. And my goodness, the stories they have to share. Witches, mayhem, drama, snark and creative spells, zombie whispering, some demon-type guy that’s REALLY attached to his pen, a cookie jar, and sly references to Shakespeare, Harry Potter, and Hanson. What more could you ask for? How about exploding man parts, hunky Scandinavian dudes, designer shoes, and an all-around good time? Well, we’ve got you covered.

snape

Writing “A Trunk Full of Peril” was an incredible labor of love and feels. Circe and Hadrian mean so much to me, and I hope that if you pick up our book, they will give you as many feels as they gave me. Because they gave me a lot. Forcefully, I might add.

In short….here’s the blurb. Here’s the link. You know what to do. Allons-y!

In case you didn't know.

In case you didn’t know.

Welcome to Little Raven: an unsullied, beautiful woodland hamlet in the heart of the Midwest.

The sort of place where furry creatures romp about and spend their days bursting into song.

Actually, that’s a giant pack of lies.

Little Raven is a town…for witches.

And some of those witches might have bent the rules. A teensy bit. When six magical miscreants dabble with black magic, they end up together at Incantations, the town’s rehab center for witches gone awry. It’s a slap on the wrist for naughty witches. Pretty much a daycare center so they don’t wander off and start turning people into newts on a whim. Each witch must work through her addiction to black magic, and follow the tenets designed to lead them back to the path of the straight and narrow, as boring as that sounds. Even if following the tenets sucks worse than a group round of kum-bay-ya. Which sucks. Horribly.

We will admit we are powerless over magic—that our lives have become unmanageable.

We will make a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of the Goddess as we understand Her.

We will make a searching and fearless moral and magical inventory of ourselves.

We will admit to the Goddess, to ourselves, and to another being the exact nature of our magical wrongs.

We will make a list of all persons or beings we have harmed, and become willing to make amends to them all.

We will make direct amends to such beings whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

We are entirely ready to bow before the Goddess and have Her remove all our defect of character, even at the risk of being entirely stripped of our magic.

But this is just the start. There’s something rotten in Little Raven, something that seeks to take all the magic it can, and devour the inhabitants in the process. It will take the strength and power of all the witches to defeat the darkness seeping into their town, beat it back, and be rid of it forever…and maybe just make it through rehab while they’re saving the world.

The Power Couple
The Without Rules Series #3
By Tyffani Clark Kemp
Publication Date: September 11th, 2014
Published by: SideStreet Cookie Publishing
After the loss of her husband and her preterm baby, Mariss Red is finally starting to put her life back together. She’s in a semi-stable relationship and her publishing business is doing well. None of that can fill the hole in her heart, but she’s a survivor. Her newest obstacle? Maneuvering the hazy boundaries of an open relationship with a man who can’t be bound by rules.
Sebastian Boa, The Man Without Rules, struggles to live an honorable life. Mariss meets and approves any woman he happens to bring home and things are going well, aside from the occasional miscommunication. It’s bound to happen, since he’s never been in a steady relationship before. But he knows Mariss is keeping something from him, and he knows it’s probably another man.
A trip to Paris is meant to be a romantic break for the strange couple, but it ends up in disaster when Sebastian catches Mariss with her secret lover. Add a crazed fangirl trying to seduce Sebastian, a man who has found that rules just might work for him after all. If it means he keeps Mariss in his life. It seems The Power Couple may never catch a break.

BUT WAIT!!! THERE’S MORE KILTS!
Yes, Michael, I know this feeling.

Yes, Michael, I know this feeling.

And next, but certainly not least, is another one I’ve been foaming at the mouth for. “Shaggy Maggie” from Tyffani Clark Kemp has had me in a perpetual state of want from day one. Kemp has several books out, and a few more on the near horizon, so I would get started reading if I were you.
Shaggymaggieebook

Harvey Young, rock star lead of the Scottish band Shaggy Maggie, has dreamed his whole life about the red-haired girl from the school bus that he bullied until she ran away. He’s resigned himself to groupie fill-ins. There’s no way he’ll ever see her again. Why torture himself pining for his lost youth?

Magda Canady may be on the unlucky side, but her life is starting to work itself out. She’s an editor for a New York Publishing company and her long-time lawyer boyfriend is taking her home to Scotland to meet the parents and his younger brother. But the trip holds more danger than she could have imagined. Between a psycho stalker and the boy who tortured her through high school, she might lose her mind – and her life – before it’s all said and done.

When a chance encounter brings them together once more, it’s the past, the present, and a little psychosis that may get in the way of the future that was always meant to be.

Brand New Cover for Allison Cosgrove’s “Sacrifice of Innocence”!

4 Dec

Today, I want to share with you the freshly-redesigned cover for Allison Cosgrove’s suspense thriller, Sacrifice of Innocence! Lookit!!! So pretty!!!

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000446_00060]

A brief description: A cult has been killing children for its rituals and only one cop knows who they are. Detective Stan Brookshire knows but his past keeps people from believing in him. Can he rise above the stigma that shrouds his past and stop a cult from taking yet another innocent child from her mother’s arms before its too late?

Here’s an excerpt:

The man in the corner listened in the darkness, the wind whistling through the crack in the window frame, billowing his hair around him. The child in the room with him was invisible in the darkness. Even the power of the sun, let alone the light from the full moon, could not dampen the gloom hidden behind the boarded windows.

Hearing a sound, the man stiffened. It was the child; the sweet, young child.

“Very soon, my precious, very soon,” Joseph whispered, his breath coming in short gasps. Excitement filled his belly; time was drawing closer for the boy.

Footsteps in the hallway caused the boy to whimper in fear, lighting the man’s loins on fire. Desperately wanting the forbidden, to touch and play with the boy, he tried to force the urge back down. He wasn’t allowed that pleasure, yet. The priests would come soon and the boy would have to be pure. The man’s needs would have to wait. The boy would have to wait.

Dreaming of the day he would finally be able to have his way with the boy, the man fixed the delicious whimpers in his memory. The boy would no longer be able to cry and plea.

It was coming soon. So close now.

On the other side of the room, he heard the ominous creak of the door opening. Blinding light silhouetted a figure dressed in long robes.

He hurried over and retrieved his boy-child, his breath coming in gasps so ragged that he thought his lungs would cease to function.

A whimper was all that escaped the gag when the boy tried to scream. Cringing at the man’s touch, he fought against the bonds, causing the man’s groin to harden once more.

The man smiled. He tightened his grip upon the boy as he tried to wiggle free. The door stood open, waiting for him and the boy.

Suddenly, the door swung closed behind him, plunging the room into darkness once again.

And here’s the lovely Allison Cosgrove…..

allison-head-shot-newBio: Allison Cosgrove was born and raised in a suburb of Toronto, Ontario. A married mother of three daughters, she works in accounting by day and creates her own worlds by night. She enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters hiking in the woods or sitting by the fire reading a good book. She has had the love of reading and writing detective mysteries from the age of twelve but it has only been since the birth of her youngest that she has gotten serious about crafting some of her own works for others to enjoy. She credits her family and friends with being the driving force that has given her the strength to breathe life into her books.

In case you missed it the first time around, I have reviewed “Sacrifice of Innocence”. Here it is one more time. Enjoy.

I was initially drawn to this story by the premise. I love a good, solid thriller. Sacrifice of Innocence delivers on this front.

Ms. Cosgrove has created a character in Stan Brookshire that has the potential to rival that of Connelly’s Harry Bosch. But, I wanted more from him. He is a character that is likeable and relatable, which is why I expected more. He came across to me with all the hallmarks of a suspense novel detective, but I was struggling to find what would make him stand out. I liked, but I didn’t feel that I knew him. However, this may be intentional on the part of Ms. Cosgrove in order for the reader to see where Brookshire grows. I would keep reading to find out. The interaction between Stan and his partner Jane was good, but I felt their dialogue could have been a little more natural.

Often, there was a lot of backstory before action was introduced. That was sometimes difficult to wade through, as it slowed down the action for the characters. I enjoyed the overall feel of this book, but there were quite a few moments that gave me pause. For instance, when Lily’s mother receives the message on her answering machine, the reader is simply told what happens. I feel it would have been more powerful if the reader could seen the mother’s horror and her reaction through an action-oriented scene.  There were several scenes like this where I felt more action and more dialogue would have cemented a connection with the reader.

When action drove the story, things picked up and I was pleased to become immersed in the suspense. This story depends heavily on its chilling premise with villains that make your blood run cold. That kept me turning pages until the end. I found a few editing flaws, but nothing that had me bothered.

Overall, I enjoyed this story enough to be interested in another Stan Brookshire offering, simply because I would like to get to know him better.  Since I can’t give half-stars, and three stars doesn’t accurately convey how I feel, I’m going with four. A solid read from an author with great potential.

Just Past the Trees

Description: On a hot summer day in Central Florida, a young man discovers a bloodied body in a field behind the repair shop where he works. Grizzly and twisted, the body leaves few clues as to the offender, some questioning if such a horrible end could actually come at the hands of another. The young, struggling writer with the crummy landscaping job who found the body never expected what his find would lead to, nor the friendship he would develop with the fellow writer and crypto-zoologist interested in the case and pressing for answers. Together, neither of them could have guessed the incredible gift they would receive in their budding friendship, the invigoration to their writing, or the heart-stopping experience they would ultimately share.

Also, in case you missed it, you can check out the feature and my review of “Just Past The Trees” here.

The Uninvited Guest

Description: When teenagers Harland Jacobs and Jose Rodriguez crashed a wedding, they weren’t doing anything terribly wrong. Jose only came because his nagging mother made him. Harlan only joined him to make it tolerable for his friend – and the free food, the girls and the dancing, of course. And they took full advantage too, eating, laughing at the guests behind their backs, and in the end, were planning to make complete fools of themselves. Why not? What did they have to lose? But they never dreamed this wedding would have taken such a staggeringly horrific turn. They never dreamed they would be fighting for their lives in this lodge tucked away in the woods. They never dreamed they would have heard so much screaming on a wedding day either.

What they would never have expected was the surreal nightmare they would experience on their journey back.
